Elizabeth Barbara “Betty” Steinwedel, 87, of Sykesville, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Fairhaven Health Care Center in Sykesville.
Born in Baltimore on Feb. 23, 1927, Betty Steinwedel was the daughter of the late William Christian Koehnlein and Mamie Pauline Zoph Koehnlein. She was the wife of 45 years of the late William Harry Steinwedel.
Betty had worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist for many years. She had worked for the Railroad Retirement Board and the Railroad Police Department at Camden Yards. She then retired from the former Green Manor Turf Farm.

Betty enjoyed photography, playing bridge, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She had been a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Arbutus and in recent years had attended Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sykesville.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorie Steinwedel Harz and David John Harz of Sykesville; grandson, Jake E. Harz of Sykesville and sister-in-law, Grace Koehnein. She is also survived by two nieces.

She was predeceased by siblings, Doretta S. Cook and Jack F. Koehnlein.
The family received friends on Monday, Dec. 22 at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel in Sykesville, and held a funeral service on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church at 5600 Old Washington Road in Sykesville with Pastor Michael Dubsky officiating. Entombment followed in Crest Lawn Mausoleum, Marriottsville.
