
Gwendolyn Mae Smith, 75 of Sykesville, died Friday, Dec. 26, at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born July 19, 1939, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Louis O. and Katie Bowman Dorsey. She was the wife of William Douglas “Chubby” Smith of Sykesville, to whom she was married for 52 years.
Gwendolyn had retired as an LPN from Rosewood Hospital Center after 30 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Johnsville United Methodist Church in Sykesville.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughter Genna Smith and her partner Yasmin Jackson-Smith and Yasmin’s children MeShon Adams and Simmone and Desiree Anderson, of Baltimore County; godson David Whittaker of Carroll County; aunt Kathleen Bowman of Winfield; grandchildren Kyona and Tiara Whittaker and a host of cousins.

The family received friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel at 6416 Sykesville Rd. in Sykesville on Monday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Johnsville United Methodist Church, located at 1124 Johnsville Rd. in Sykesville. An interment followed in the church cemetery.
