Person Faces Rabies Shots if Dog Isn’t Found

Carroll County health officials are asking for the public's help.

Carroll County health officials said a person who was bit by an unknown dog on April 4 in Sykesville faces a series of rabies shots if the dog isn’t found.

Health officials are urging the public to help locate the dog, described as “an older possible Shepherd mix with a medium build, floppy ears, wearing no collar and having a brown/black/gray coat.”

A person was bit by the unknown dog on Autumn View Drive in Sykesville April 4, according to a release.

Health officials said if the dog isn’t located by Friday April 12, the person will have to undergo a "series of expensive post-exposure rabies shots."

This isn’t the first rabies scare locally.

In January, Sykesville town officials warned residents not to feed stray animals after a citizen was exposed to rabies after trying to “rescue a distressed kitten,” officials said at the time.
