Vernon Henry Landgraf, 88

Vernon Henry Landgraf, 88 of Sykesville, died Saturday, Jan. 3.

Born April 19, 1926, in Baltimore, Vernon was the son of the late Carl G. Landgraf and Marie Scriba Landgraf. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosa May Gallion Landgraf, who died in 1969. He was the husband of Betty Lou Storm Landgraf of Sykesville.

Vernon had been a master electrician for many years. He was a long-time member of local union 24 I.B.E.W. Vernon was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post #7472, Ellicott City and Sykesville American Legion Post #223. Vernon was the son of German immigrants.

He enjoyed fishing, football -- especially the former Baltimore Colts where he had been a season ticket holder -- the Baltimore Ravens and playing the accordion.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughter-in-law Karl and Jacqueline Landgraf of Ellicott City and Eric Landgraf of Sykesville; daughters and sons-in-law Rosmarie and John Parker of Manchester, Marlena and Robert McElroy of Glenville, PA and Cheryl and Robert Jackson of Westminster; step-daughters and step-sons-in-law Leslie and Russell Mosher of Onancock, VA, Teri Bell of Baltimore and Kelly and Craig Mitchell of Laurel. Vernon is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 6416 Sykesville Rd. in Sykesville. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Katie Saari officiating. Entombment will be held in Crest Lawn Mausoleum in Marriottsville.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Research Association or to VFW Post 7472, Ellicott City.
