What Road in Eldersburg Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Eldersburg, MD- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Eldersburg. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Eldersburg, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "KALI Drive! People use our street as a shortcut around Carroll Towne Elementary. Since the new town homes have been built, there is a tremendous amount of through traffic and people driving way too fast. It's dangerous for our kids!'
  • "Ridge Road. Have actually had cars go around me/pass me on Ridge because I am doing the speed limit and they want to fly down the road."
  • "RIDGE! That or speed traps! There are bus stops on ridge and the people fly right through the bus stop sign and the red lights."
  • "Pinyon Pine and Longleaf Pine Roads!"
  • "Tydings Rd in Eldersburg Estates."
  • "Gemini Drive between Ridge and Macbeth."
  • "Bartholow Road at Collins Avenue."
  • "Courtland Drive. People fly down both hills all the time."
  • "Bartholow Road could use a few between Linton Road and Route 32. Speed limit is only 30 mph. Most who travel on Bartholow speed like it's a highway."
  • "Definitely Mineral Hill, between Oakland Mills Road and Pine Knob Road. The quarry dump trucks and tractor-trailers use this road as a short cut to avoid all the lights on 26."
  • "Every residential road! I also agree 110% on Kali drive with the town homes and now the new shopping center!"
