5 Ways To Prevent Crime From Affecting Your Car

Here are the best 5 tips to prevent your car from being stolen or damaged by anyone.

Your car is one of your most valuable possessions, so it goes without saying that its safety is a huge consideration for everyone. Sadly, car theft and vandalism are common occurrences today so taking the relevant security measures to protect your vehicle can be crucial to your peace of mind and property. There are plenty of things you can do to help protect your car. Boost your car’s theft-protection features today to ensure that nobody gets their hands on what belongs to you.

  1. Tint your windows: Many thieves break into a car because they like something they’ve spotted inside. A smart and straightforward way to defend your possessions from theft is to make them virtually invisible to anyone who isn’t inside your car. Car tinting is an excellent way to make this happen. Tinting specialists can apply dark tints to all of your car windows so nobody can take a peek inside. This will reduce the temptation to thieves, and allow you to sleep more comfortably at night.

  2. Switch your steering wheel to quick-release: This may seem unusual, but quick-release steering wheels are a truly effective when it comes to preventing car theft. This allows you to unlock and remove the steering wheel in the evening before you lock up for the night, so anyone who breaks into your car will feel pretty foolish when they try to drive away. Your car should be able to be modified to include one of these steering wheels, so just ask your local dealership if this could be an option for your vehicle. Alternatively, a steering lock offers an excellent solution for those that can’t mix-and-match their steering wheels.

  3. Choose your parking spots wisely: Many auto crimes take place because the vehicle was parked in a risky location. You can’t always help where you need to park, but if you do have options then choose your spot wisely with safety in mind. Avoid dark spots without streetlights and people around if you’re parking somewhere at night, and stick to your garage or underground parking when locking up at home. If you’re forced to park your car on the street outside your home in an unsafe spot, consider renovating to include a garage in your home. This is far safer and could save you money in the future while increasing the value of your property.

  4. Add a boot to your car: We’re not talking about a trunk here, but an actual wheel clamp that secures your tire while you’re away from your car, stopping potential thieves from making off with your precious vehicle. These are also pretty handy for deterring meter-watchers. You shouldn’t have to use these all the time, but they’re useful for those moments when you have no choice but to parking in a dodgy neighborhood.

  5. Make sure you have modern safety features installed: If you’re driving a relatively new car then it probably came with an alarm and immobilizer built in, but slightly older cars may not have these features included. If your vehicle doesn’t have an alarm, install one as soon as possible so that you’ll have fair warning if someone attempts to break in. These features can also help to lower your premiums on your car insurance, so they’re well worth the installation costs.
