Duo Sends Care Packages to Maryland National Guard Troops in D.C.
Effort headed by Residences at Vantage Point centenarian Vivian C. 'Millie' Bailey and friend Judith M. Dye

Residences at Vantage Point is sending “care packages” to Maryland National Guard troops now providing security in Washington, D.C. The effort is led by centenarian Vivian C. ‘Millie’ Bailey, a resident of Vantage Point, and friend Judith M. Dye. The duo, which has been mailing packages to units deployed to the Middle East, Africa and Poland, was asked by a Maryland National Guard Support Services representative to direct the tributes to the troops in Washington, D.C.
The women gathered items from their own stockpile and donations of snack bars, bags of trail mix, nuts and cookies from Vantage Point residents, members of American Legion Post 156 in Ellicott City and other friends and packaged them for delivery by Dye to the National Guard Armory in Gaithersburg. Guard personnel couriered the gift packages to the soldiers, who are staying in hotels in the nation’s capital.
Bailey served in World War II and is a long-time local leader. She was recognized for a lifetime of community service in 2020 at the opening of Vivian C. ‘Millie’ Bailey Park at Lake Kittamaqundi in Downtown Columbia. The park, developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, is the future site of the Howard County Veterans Monument.
