Elkridge Store Sells $1 Million Powerball Ticket

A man staying in Howard County on business will return home $1 million richer, after buying a winning Powerball ticket on Old Waterloo Road.

Cody Kent, 37, has been in Ellicott City for work as an industrial mechanic for the last month, according to the Maryland Lottery.

When he purchased four Powerball tickets at the 7-Eleven at 6590 Old Waterloo Road in Elkridge Saturday, he let the automatic “Quick Pick” machine select numbers for him, lottery officials reported.

One of his tickets matched all five numbers in Saturday’s drawing, yielding a $1 million payout.

In addition, the Elkridge 7-Eleven receives a $2,500 bonus for selling the ticket.

Kent was one of four $1 million winners from the drawing; others purchased tickets in Iowa, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Kent hails from Texas and said that to celebrate his win, he went to a pub and watched as his teams, the Houston Astros and the Houston Rockets, both won their matchups.

“This has been an awesome weekend,” Kent told Maryland Lottery authorities when he claimed his prize on Monday.

Since there was no jackpot winner who matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number, the drawing on Wednesday increases to $121 million.
