Flooding Closes Part Of Patapsco State Park

BREAKING: Flooding has shut down part of Patapsco Valley State Park Sunday, officials say.

A section of Patapsco Valley State Park is closed Sunday afternoon due to flooding, park officials reported. The Avalon area was shut down due to flooding, authorities reported around 3 p.m.

There is a flood warning in effect until 9:30 p.m. for central Maryland, including Howard and Baltimore counties.

Drivers and pedestrians who come across water of unknown depth should turn around; don't drown.

The gauge along the Patapsco River in Elkridge showed there was high water Sunday morning, a condition that continued after 2:30 p.m., officials reported. In addition, there was high water on Hammonds Ferry Road as well as along Furnace Avenue, according to the National Weather Service, which issued the flood warning.

About 2 to 3 inches of rain have fallen, with an inch more possible through Sunday evening, the National Weather Service advised before 3 p.m.
