Girl Scout Gold Award: New Food Donation Bins

Elkridge Girl Scout puts food donation bins from the Elkridge Pantry into grocery stores.

Hello Elkridge,

My name is Ellie and I just recently finished up my Girl Scout Gold Award for 2017. My Gold Award included making three brand new food donation bins from scratch and placing them in Green Valley, Weis, and Giant of Elkridge. There had already been an older donation bin in Green Valley, but I replaced it with a new one. The ones I placed in Weis and Giant are the first of their kind in both stores. The food donation bins are affiliated with the Elkridge Food Pantry, a nonprofit, which works to provide free groceries to community members in need. The Pantry collects the food in the bins once each week and takes them right back to the Pantry for storage and distribution.

My hope is that seeing these food donation bins will confront community members with the fact that hunger is a very real and tangible issue in Elkridge and all around the world, and prompt an attitude of gratitude throughout the community.

If you would like to donate non-perishable foods/toiletries, please look for one of these donation bins in Weis, Green Valley, or Giant in Elkridge, MD. If you would like to volunteer or donate directly to the Food Pantry, it is open every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month from 4-8pm.
