Grassroots Seeks Volunteers for Columbia and Jessup Centers

Office Assistants and Showers and Laundry Monitors needed to help clients

Grassroots is seeking volunteers for both the Crisis Intervention Center and Shelter in Columbia and for the Day Resource Center in Jessup where people who are chronically homeless receive services, according to Grassroots Volunteer Coordinator Monteith Mitchell.

Volunteers are needed to serve as Office Assistants in Columbia on Tuesdays for two-hour shifts between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Responsibilities include writing thank you notes, mailings and data entry, helping with answering the business phone in the Men’s Shelter office, and responding to male residents’ requests for supplies.

Two volunteers age 18 and over are needed at the Day Resource Center to serve as Showers and Laundry Monitors to assist a limited number of guests with shower and laundry supplies. Responsibilities include taking temperatures and recording entry times, cleaning showers between guests and washing and drying shower linens. One volunteer is needed for Mondays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and one for Wednesdays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Volunteers will be cross-trained for other positions to fill in as needed.
