High Water Leads To Road Closure In Jessup

BREAKING NEWS: Some lanes on Route 1 are closed in Jessup due to high water Sunday, officials report.

JESSUP, MD — High water has been reported in Jessup on Sunday afternoon. Howard County is under a flood warning until 6:45 p.m.

After 2:30 p.m., transportation authorities said that on US 1/Washington Boulevard northbound, right lane and right shoulder were closed because of high water before Hicks Road. The left lane was able to get by.

Later, US 1 was also closed to southbound traffic in the area of Mission Road.

Due to already saturated ground in the area, weather officials say the heavy rains forecast Sunday afternoon cause streams and low-lying areas to flood.
