One Dead, Two Injured In Route 1 Crash: Police

A man was killed in a crash on Route 1 in Elkirdge Saturday, the Howard County Police Department reports.

ELKRIDGE, MD – One person died and two were injured in a crash on US 1 in Elkridge Saturday afternoon, police reported. The crash happened at 2:10 p.m. in the area of Daniels Restaurant, south of Brumbaugh..

Police said a driver was pulling out to make a left turn onto northbound US 1 when he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling south.

William John McNamara, 55, of Elkridge, was taken to St. Agnes Hospital, where officials said he was pronounced deceased. He had been driving a 2013 Fiat that was hit while trying to turn left, according to police.

Authorities said his passenger, Karen Anne McNamara, 54, of Elkridge, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition.

The 2010 Dodge Ram that hit the McNamaras' car was driven by Simone Alicia Cools-Lartigues of Columbia, who was taken to shock trauma in stable condition, police reported.

Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities said the Fiat was at fault for failing to give right of way to the truck.

US 1 was closed between Old Washington Road and Levering Avenue until approximately 6:35 p.m., police said.
