Pedestrian Hit In Costco Parking Lot: Howard County Police

Police said two people were hospitalized after a crash in the Costco parking lot Saturday at Gateway Overlook off MD 175.

ELKRIDGE, MD — Officials are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian in the Costco parking lot at the Gateway Overlook shopping center. The victim was in critical condition, police reported.

Officials said a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 hit the pedestrian, who was crossing the lot in the 6600 block of Marie Curie Drive, around 1:58 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. The vehicle continued a short distance before stopping, police said.

Chun Yuan Leon Cheng, 31, of Jessup, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition.

The driver of the Ram — Joseph Zowd, 45, of Jessup — was also taken to the hospital, police reported. He was being evaluated at Howard County General Hospital.

Authorities are looking into whether he suffered a medical emergency before hitting Cheng.

A passenger in the Ram was unharmed, according to police.
