United Way Volunteers Install Pathway at Grassroots
Day of Action produces path of stepping stones from building to parking lot

During United Way of Central Maryland’s recent annual Day of Action, volunteers installed a new pathway of stepping stones connecting the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center property on Freetown Road and the back parking lot. The group also removed large rocks from the Children’s Playground.
For more than 90 years, United Way of Central Maryland has been improving lives in the communities it serves: Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County and Howard County, Maryland. The annual Day of Action includes tackling projects in these communities.

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; and operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds with the police to community emergencies. Grassroots also manages the county's emergency shelter for men, women and families who are homeless and serves as the single point of entry for the Coordinated System of Homeless Services. In addition, Grassroots operates the Day Resource Center in the Leola Dorsey Community Resource Center and manages the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months.
