Flash Flood Watch, Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For HoCo
The remnants of Hurricane Laura are moving across the region spawning thunderstorms and flash flooding.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD β A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until 8 p.m. for Howard County and surrounding counties. A flash flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday for Howard County, as well as for Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince Georges and Baltimore counties, along with the District of Columbia and portions of Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight into the overnight hours. Some of the showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall with localized amounts between 2 and 4 inches likely. Potential impacts include rapidly rising water, flooded roads and the flooding of structures in low lying areas near streams.
Expect damaging wind gusts from severe thunderstorms forecast for Saturday as the remnants of Hurricane Laura move across the region.

A special marine warning also has been issued until 7:15 p.m. for:
- Chesapeake Bay from Pooles Island to Sandy Point, MD
- Chesapeake Bay from Sandy Point to North Beach, MD
- Chester River to Queenstown, MD
- Eastern Bay
- Patapsco River including Baltimore Harbor
Wind gusts 34 knots or greater can be expected. Boaters in small watercraft could be thrown overboard by the suddenly high winds and waves, the National Weather Service advised.
