Flood Warning Issued For 2 Counties

Stream gauges have prompted a flood warning for Howard and Anne Arundel counties. Do not drive through flooded roads.

A flood warning is in effect for parts of Howard and Anne Arundel counties until early Monday morning. The National Weather Service issued the warning because of impending flooding around small streams.

At 9:34 p.m. Sunday, weather officials said that stream gauges indicated that flooding was about to start on the Little Patuxent River β€” between Guilford and Crofton β€” downstream of the Middle Patuxent River.

Just before 10 p.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration reported MD 270/Furnace Branch Road was closed at Ritchie Highway due to high water in Anne Arundel County.

Brock Bridge Road and low-lying areas in the vicinity may be flooded, and other roads may also get covered in water, the warning states.

According to the National Weather Service, locations that may experience flooding include Columbia, Jessup, Savage, Scaggsville, Savage-Guilford, Crofton, Odenton and Fort Meade.

During a flood warning, flooding is occurring or is imminent. Drivers who come across flooded roads should turn around; don't drown.

A flash flood watch remains in effect until Monday morning.

PREVIOUS WARNING (EXPIRED): A flood warning has been issued for parts of the Baltimore metro area. Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties are under the warning, as is Baltimore City.

The flood warning is in effect until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 10.

Radar showed that 1.42 inches of rain had fallen in Lisbon in a half-hour period, the National Weather Service reported at 4:33 p.m. Weather officials said that up to an inch of rain had fallen in other areas.

A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. People in flood-prone areas should move to higher ground immediately. Those who see flooded roads should turn around; don't drown.

Weather officials said these locations may experience flooding: Columbia, Ellicott City, Catonsville, Woodlawn, Randallstown, Owings Mills, Eldersburg, Milford Mill, Mount Airy, Sykesville, Ilchester, Henryton, West Friendship, Woodstock, Gaither, Granite, Poplar Springs, Roxbury Mills, Glenelg and Oella.

Cleanup efforts in Ellicott City wrapped up by 3:30 p.m. Sunday due to impending weather, Howard County government officials reported.

A flash flood watch remains in effect until Monday morning.
