Former HoCo School Board Member Faces Federal Conspiracy Charges

A federal grand jury has indicted Brian Meshkin who served on the Howard County Board of Education from 2010 to 2014.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD β€” A former Howard County school board vice chair has been indicted in California on federal conspiracy charges. Brian Meshkin faces federal conspiracy charges that claim he was involved in a kickback scheme that netted millions of dollars through his company, Proove Biosciences Inc.

A federal grand jury indicted Meshkin and eight executives from the genetic testing firm that's headquartered in Irvine, California. Meshkin served on the Howard County Board of Education from 2010 to 2014, then relocated his family to California to focus more on his business, he said.

Federal prosecutors noted that Meshkin's fraudulent activities trace back to 2013, the year before he and his family moved from Maryland to California. According to The Baltimore Sun, Meshkin and the other executives paid doctors kickbacks of $100 to $150 to entice them to order genetic tests from the company.
