Funeral Set For Staff Sgt. Eddison Alexander Hermond, 39
Obituary and funeral information have been provided regarding Staff Sgt. Eddison Hermond, who died in the Ellicott City flood.

On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Staff Sgt. Eddison A. Hermond was found after attempting to aid someone during the Ellicott City flood. He was 39 years old.
Staff Sgt. Eddison Hermond is survived by his loving parents, Eddison A. Hermond Sr. and Cleola Thompson; beloved son Jayden Cornell Jenkins; and devoted sister Alicia Joeselle Armstrong.
A public visitation will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at The Church at Severn Run, 8187 Telegraph Road, Severn, MD 21144.

The funeral service will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude at noon on Thursday, June 7.
Interment will follow to Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032. The services will include military honors.

Staff Sgt. Hermond was born on Aug. 15, 1978, and passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, according to his obituary. The 39-year-old lived in Severn and was trying to help someone in distress when he was swept away by the fast-moving waters.
Hermond joined the Air Force in 1996 and served for more than a decade.
He had also worked at Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia since it opened in 2007. After the owners opened Manor Hill Tavern in Ellicott City, he worked as a manager there in 2017.
Hermond joined the Army National Guard in 2009 and was assigned to the training detachment at Camp Frettard, a military reservation in Reisterstown, where he was on active duty.
"Sgt. Eddison Hermond, 39, of Severn, Md., exemplified selfless service by trying to save the life of woman during flooding on Sunday," Major General Linda Singh of the Maryland National Guard said in a statement the day after his body was discovered by those searching after the flood. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hermond family and his son during this most difficult time. The loss of one of our own is always very difficult, and little can be said to ease the pain, but we must remember Sgt. Hermond's dedication to our nation and state and honor his service."
Vice President Mike Pence called Hermond "brave" in a message of condolence.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered flags lowered to half-staff in his honor.
