Howard Co. Council Seeks Applicants for Board of Appeals

The Council is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the County's Board of Appeals. The position receives monetary compensation.

From Howard Co. Council: The Howard County Council is currently seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the County's Board of Appeals. Appointed by the County Council, the Board of Appeals is a five-member body that hears and decides variances, conditional uses, non-conforming uses, and appeals of departmental or administrative decisions.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters and residents of the County. The candidate selected will be appointed to fill the remainder of a five-year term which will expire on December 31, 2021. Pursuant to Section 501(a) of the Howard County Charter, no more than three members shall be registered with the same political party. Given the current membership of the Board, the applicant selected to fill this vacancy cannot be a registered Democrat; however, individuals of any party affiliation are welcome to express their interest for future consideration.

The Board meets as needed, typically once or twice each month. Members receive compensation of $5,000 per year plus $110.00 per official public session, not to exceed $16,125 per year.
