Kenya Connect 5K Run/Walk!

A fabulous family fun event!

Kenya Connect will be hosting the 6th annual Kenya Connect 5K Run/Walk: Running for Education on Two Continents on Saturday, March 28 at 9:00 am at St. John’s in Ellicott City. The race supports teachers and students living in rural Kenya to a brighter future through education.
The Kenya Connect 5K: Running for Education on Two Continents will wind through the beautiful Dunloggin neighborhood with over 300 runners/walkers from Howard, Baltimore, Montgomery, and Anne Arundel counties expected to be a part of the race. The event supports Kenya Connect, a non-profit working to empower and enrich education at 58 schools in rural Kenya. In addition to the 5K run/walk, we will have a GROOVE option (like ZUMBA) thanks to our friends at Miss Fit for those wanting another energizing activity to support Kenya Connect. There will also be a crafts market featuring Kenyan baskets, woodcarvings, aprons, and tablecloths created by our friends in rural Kenya. A postrace gathering will be held on the campus of St. John’s Episcopal Church with breakfast foods and all race participants are invited to Manor Hill Tavern for brunch/lunch post party (additional fee at Manor Hill).

We have unique prizes! The top three male/female runners will win hand carved medallions from Kenya, gift cards and the top runner will also receive a Kenyan Carving. Top three male/female runners in all age categories will win hand carved medallions from Wamunyu. The fastest team (top five runners on a team) will win a prize. Top Individual Fundraiser and Top Team Fundraiser will win prizes and anyone raising $500 or more will win a Kenyan basket or carving. All runners registered by March 16 are guaranteed a short-sleeved tech shirt and goodie bag. Race costs increase on March 16.

Runners/walkers can register at www.kenyaconnect.org. The race registration fee is $30 in advance and $40 after March 16.

Kenya Connect has worked since 2002 to help strengthen rural education by breaking down barriers and providing empowerment and enrichment programs. In 2012 we opened the solar powered Kenya Connect Learning Resource Center that houses 30 computers and a library-- the only facility of its kind for 100km serving 58 partner schools representing 18,000 students. We are now teaching basic technology classes as well as classes in coding, CAD, 3D printing, animation and video games. Our “Magic School Bus” and “Reading Rover” bring books from out 10,000 book collection to library card holders at our partner schools. Maryland schools partner with Kenya Connect in Pen Pal and School Sponsorship programs.
