Steve Wecker Maryland Restaurateur of the Year

Steve Wecker started his career at the very bottom. At 19 he walked into the Magic Pan in Columbia asking for his first restaurant job.

“I came in and told them I’d like to wait tables. But they said I was too young, so I ended up washing dishes.”

Steve quickly became the fastest dishwasher the owner had seen. He worked his way up quickly, from, host, to busboy, and finally, the job he really wanted, waiter. Steve's hard work paid off.

Wecker worked, saved and devoted himself to his future dream of becoming a restaurateur. After a few years he was finally able to open his own restaurant. Now, after 25 years of hard work and professionalism, Steve owns several restaurants, employing over 200 people locally.

Steve considers his employees a critical part of his success. "Quality and customer service are essential for a great restaurant, and that requires a fantastic team."

Wecker's parents taught him to give back to the community and he has been a generous supporter of charities and non-profits over the years. He urges people to quit arguing over what divides them, and go out and help their neighbors. Help build a better community for us all.

Wecker is no stranger to awards and has received several over the years, including: Corporate
Philanthropist of the year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Tourism Partner of the Year, Wine & Beverage Program of the Year, and many others.

Wecker aims for a unique experience at all of his outstanding restaurants:

Cured for a Burger and a lager; Mutiny Pirate Bar for Oysters and a mojito; Iron Bridge for Seafood and fine wine; 18th & 21st for steak, fine wine, live music and a five star night out.
