Nursing Home Receives National Award, Vaccinates Residents

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant recently was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a "best nursing home" for 2020-2021. The nursing home also recently vaccinated more than 100 individuals for COVID-19. CVS staff administered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to assisted living residents and team members in accordance with the state’s distribution plan, Phase 1A. The two-dose vaccine is given three weeks apart with the second dose scheduled for Jan. 30.

“Many of our residents and team members had been looking forward to the clinic, and it’s great to see such a large turnout,” Michelle Rosenheim, executive director of Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, said in a statement. “Miller’s Grant has been and is continuing to diligently practice COVID-19 safety protocols, and this is another step towards making our community safer."

Both of Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland’s communities, Carroll Lutheran Village and Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, were ranked in the top tier of U.S. skilled nursing facilities for 2020-2021 by U.S. News & World Report. They earned this status by achieving the highest rating of “high performing” for short-term rehabilitation.

"We are very pleased for this recognition," LSMMD’s president and CEO Jeff Branch said in a statement. "Based on the positive feedback we routinely receive from residents, families and outpatient patients, we know we have a great team of physical, occupational and speech therapists who are providing a quality experience and highly developed care."

The communities create customized recovery plans and work with individuals toward recovering as quickly as possible and to the best of their ability, Rosenheim noted. Rehabilitation services include aquatic therapy, cognitive memory enhancement, home safety, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment BIG & Loud program, post-surgical rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapy and more.
