Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For 5 Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, with 60 mph winds possible Thursday in parts of Maryland.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday night for several counties and Baltimore City. Damaging wind gusts may accompany the storm.

Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties as well as Baltimore City are under the warning, which is in effect until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13.

Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm was over Columbia that was moving east at 40 mph, as of 6:14 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

These locations may be impacted, according to the warning: Baltimore, Columbia, Severn, Middle River, Elkridge, Riviera Beach, Baltimore-Washington Airport, Millers Island, North Point State Park, Sparrows Point, Back River, Glen Burnie, Ellicott City, Dundalk, Catonsville, Essex, Woodlawn, Severna Park, Odenton and Milford Mill.

People should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.

PREVIOUS WARNING (expired) β€” There is a severe thunderstorm warning for Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery counties until 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 13. The National Weather Service issued the warning after 5 p.m.

During the warning period, 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail are possible.

People should stay inside if possible and not drive under trees, since large branches may fall.

An isolated tornado is possible, according to the National Weather Service, which issued the warning after radar indicated severe thunderstorms over southeastern Frederick and northwestern Baltimore counties before 5:15 p.m. that was moving east at 40 mph.

These areas are under the severe thunderstorm warning:

  • Southeastern Carroll County
  • Northern Howard County
  • North central Montgomery County
  • Southeastern Frederick County
  • West central Baltimore County

In particular, weather officials said these locations may be impacted: Frederick, Damascus, Harry Grove Stadium, Ellicott City, Randallstown, Eldersburg, Ballenger Creek, Mount Airy, Sykesville, Oakland, New Market, Gamber, Green Valley, Linganore-Bartonsville, Clarksburg, Buckeystown, Monrovia, Finksburg, Henryton and West Friendship.
