Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Howard County

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible in parts of Howard County, the National Weather Service warns.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD β€” A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued until 5:45 p.m. in Carroll, Frederick and Howard counties. The storm has the potential for 60 mph wind gusts.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to stay safe from wind and lightning.

Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

EXPIRED: The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Howard and Montgomery counties. The warning was issued after 3:50 p.m. and expires at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21.

A severe thunderstorm was detected by radar over Montgomery Village at 3:51 p.m., weather officials said.

The severe thunderstorm warning states that large trees and branches may fall.

These locations may be impacted, according to the warning: Germantown, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Olney, Damascus, Aspen Hill, Montgomery Village, Redland, Rossmoor, Clarksburg, Darnestown, Derwood, Washington Grove, Laytonsville, Brookeville, West Friendship, Dayton, Poplar Springs, Roxbury Mills and Norbeck.
