Virtual Tree Lighting At 42nd Annual Midnight Madness In HoCo

The Dec. 4 Ellicott City tradition will continue virtually followed by socially distanced shopping and dining to support businesses.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Enjoy a virtual tree lighting ceremony in Old Ellicott City followed by the socially distanced 42nd Annual Midnight Madness. More than 70 shops and eateries in this festive area of Ellicott City have decorated for the holidays and are ready to celebrate. There will be sidewalk sales, specials and deals extended to shoppers Dec. 4.

The virtual tree lighting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the ECP Facebook page. The Howard County Fire & Rescue display Holiday Train Wonderland Walk, a 22-year-old tradition, will span seven different windows along Main Street and have a scavenger hunt accessible from smart phones.

Merry Main Street Marketplace, a new outdoor holiday market, will be held in The Courtyards with artisan offerings, hot drinks and more, according to organizers. To help keep shoppers safe, pedestrian walkways along Main Street have been expanded to help with 6-foot social distancing and everyone is reminded to wear masks, organizers noted.
