What's Open, Closed For July 4, 2021, Observation In HoCo

Since the Independence Day holiday falls on a Sunday, some Monday services will be affected.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Because Independence Day falls on a Sunday, it will be observed Monday, July 5, resulting in the closure of county offices and the delay of services until the following day.

Howard County government offices, the court system, the animal shelter, 50+ centers and Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday on July 5. There won't be Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scraps collection Monday and the county’s holiday slide schedule will be in effect for the rest of the week.

On July 4, county parks and the Roger Carter Community Center will be open, although the center will close early at 5 p.m., and the county’s department of recreation and parks’ Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, Gary J. Arthur and North Laurel Community Centers, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Meadowbrook Athletic Center, Robinson Nature Center and county historic sites (except for the Patapsco Female Institute as it is open for a Shakespeare performance) will be closed. On July 5, all county parks, community centers and facilities will be open, except for the Robinson Nature Center, which is closed on Mondays anyway.

The Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) will operate on a “Sunday” schedule on July 4 and July 5. For more information on RTA, call 1-800-270-9553 or visit www.transitrta.com. All parking regulations and fees will be in effect.

The 9-1-1 Center, police and fire departments remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For emergencies, call 9-1-1; for non-emergencies, please call 410-313-2200.

County operations will resume Tuesday, July 6, at regular business hours. While most county government buildings remain closed to the public at this time, recreation and parks facilities and historic sites have reopened. Howard County 50+ centers will resume in-person services at full capacity July 1; however; 50+ centers will be closed July 5.
