Winter Weather Advisory For Howard County Issued

Howard County is under a winter weather advisory for snow on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD β€” The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of Maryland, including Howard County. A winter weather advisory means snow will cause travel difficulties, covering roads and reducing visibility.

The advisory calls for a wintry mix of light rain and snow Tuesday morning turning to all snow in the afternoon.

With the precipitation moving from northwest to southeast, timing for the storm is different in parts of Howard County on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

  • Northwest Howard County is under a winter weather advisory from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; about 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected.
  • Southeast Howard County is under a winter weather advisory from noon to 10 p.m.; about 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected.

Wind chills are expected to stay below zero from Tuesday night through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

With nighttime temps dropping below freezing, any moisture or slush will freeze on untreated surfaces, according to the advisory. Drivers should use caution.

State highway officials say that crews will be aggressively patrolling for icy spots.

Drivers should keep in mind that elevated areas like bridges, ramps and overpasses freeze first.
