Woman Shoots Her Mother While Kids Were Home: Police

The 32-year-old Ellicott City woman has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and firearms violations.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Howard County police have charged an Ellicott City woman with shooting and critically injuring her mother on April 22. Samantha Marie Myers, 32, of Bethany Lane, has been charged in a warrant with attempted first-degree murder, assault and firearms violations.

According to the police department, Andrea Ruth Haugh, 55, of Rollingview Court in Ellicott City, was visiting her daughter’s home when she was shot. She was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and remains in critical condition. Detectives are investigating what lead to the shooting. No one else was injured. Two children who were at the residence at the time of the shooting were unharmed but transported to Johns Hopkins Children’sCenter as a precaution.

Police were called at approximately 4:45 p.m. to the residence where they located Haugh inside with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that the victim had been shot by Myers, who was still on scene and taken into custody.
