Estates & Trusts Attorney to Prepare Free Advanced Medical Directives at Victory Villa Senior Center

Smith, Gildea & Schmidt's Mariela D'Alessio is volunteering as part of Law Day

Mariela D’Alessio, Chair of the Estates and Trusts Department at the regional law firm Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC, will be preparing free advanced medical directives on Law Day, Monday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Victory Villa Senior Center at 403 Compass Road in Middle River. Those interested must call the center to pre-register at 410-887-0235.

Law Day is honored by many estate planning practitioners across the state, and it gives people an opportunity to have an advanced medical directive — an essential document for those 18 and older — prepared for free.

“A medical directive can convey your medical wishes when you become incapacitated or uncommunicative. This document can relay your intent to your doctors, family and friends so they do not have to make difficult decisions and feel guilty as they know they are carrying out your wishes,” said D’Alessio. “Having a simple medical directive can give everyone peace of mind.”
