Health career training programs offered at No Cost for qualified students

Attend a Community College of Baltimore County Information Session to learn how to get training for entry-level employment within the health care fields of medical front office and central service technician. These pre-apprenticeship programs are offered at NO cost to the student. During the Information Sessions, attendees will talk to program area experts and receive information about the two programs as well as eligibility requirements. Applicants must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
The Information Sessions are scheduled as follows:
- 6 p.m., March 10 CCBC Essex in the Health Careers and Technology Building, Rm. 101
- 6 p.m., March 11 CCBC Randallstown, Rm. 154
Medical front office staff register patients, schedule appointments, process communications and enter data into health records. Central service technicians decontaminate, disinfect, package, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments, equipment and soft good products. Both fields are among the health care occupations projected for growth.

The pre-apprenticeship programs are 5-10 months depending on which one is selected. Although not guaranteed, upon completion, students will be highly qualified to enter a registered apprenticeship program in Surgical Technology or Medical Assisting. Students may also choose to enter the workforce or continue their education in other programs.
This no-cost educational opportunity is made possible by a nearly $2 million Department of Labor Apprenticeship Grant awarded to CCBC to help address a workforce need. With much of the healthcare workforce requiring education beyond high school, entering one of these pre-apprenticeship programs creates a pipeline of better qualified applicants to move to the next level of apprenticeship programs.
