Funeral Service, Vigil Scheduled for Cookie Harris
The wife of Congressman Andy Harris passed away on Aug. 28.

Sylvia “Cookie” Harris, the wife of U.S. Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), died Thursday at the age of 57.
Harris, who lived in Cockeysville, was born in Puerto Rico and earned her degree in elementary education from Notre Dame of Maryland, according to The Baltimore Sun. She went on to teach at St. Joseph School in Cockeysville, where her children also attended school, according to the Catholic Review, for which she was occasionally a columnist.
Known for her pro-life advocacy, Cookie Harris was the director of special events for the Maryland Right to Life and was a devout Catholic, according to a statement from the Maryland GOP.

She is survived by her husband, their five children, two grandchildren, several siblings and other relatives listed in her obituary.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, at Ruck Funeral Home (1050 York Road) in Towson. A vigil is planned for 7 p.m., according to a statement from the Office of Congressman Harris.

A funeral mass will celebrate the life of Cookie Harris at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen (5200 N. Charles Street) in Baltimore. Archbishop William E. Lori will preside over the mass, which will be followed by a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Cookie Harris to Pregnancy Center North, 6805 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212. According to the statement from her husband, Cookie Harris was on the board at the center and regularly volunteered there.
