Give Cancer Patients the Gift of a Lift to Treatment for Holidays

American Cancer Society Road to Recovery - $18 gets a patient to treatment; $36 provides roundtrip to treatment and back home

YOu can give a cancer patient the gift of a lift to treatment through the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. We also welcome new volunteer drivers. Donate at: www.crowdrise.com/givearide and more volunteer drivers are needed!

An estimated 3.6 million Americans delay or have difficulty getting needed medical care each year due to the lack of available and affordable transportation to treatment. Last year in the Maryland/Greater DC/NVA region, volunteer drivers with the American Cancer Society (ACS) Road to Recovery program provided 10,500 free rides to treatment for patients. Nationally, ACS provided 480,000 free rides to treatment. But, the Society would like to provide even more!

Over the course of the months required for cancer treatment, family and friends may not have the time or resources to provide every ride. Some patients don’t even have a support system for rides. That's why a successful transportation assistance program is a tremendous asset, and donations play a critical role.

The Road to Recovery program is at the very heart of the American Cancer Society's work of removing barriers to quality health care. When a Road to Recovery driver isn't available, the American Cancer Society will pay for a cancer patient to use a ride share service, such as a taxi, Uber or Lyft.

A one-way ride costs $18, and a roundtrip ride is $36. Giving the gift of a one-way or roundtrip ride (or more) will help a local* cancer patient get to and from their lifesaving treatment!

Our goal for this campaign, to raise $7,500 will help ACS provide more than 200 cancer patients with free rides to lifesaving treatment in targeted counties in Maryland, Northern Virginia and throughout DC.
