Kenwood Fares Well in Patrick Invitational
The girls placed second while the boys took sixth in the second annual track and field meet at Kenwood.

Kenwood’s boys and girls track and field teams each fared well Saturday at the school’s second annual Patrick Invitational.
The girls took second place with 93.5 points and only trailed meet champion Archbishop Spalding’s 105 points in the 17-team meet. ’s boys team finished in sixth place with 40 points, while Edgewood won the overall team title with 100 points.

Senior Rayven Ray, , led Kenwood’s girls team by winning the high jump (5-feet, 2-inches) and the 100-meter dash (12.7 seconds). Also, Shaneara Terry captured the long jump (14-10) and high jump (school-record 8 feet) titles for the Bluebirds.

In addition, Kenwood took second place in the 4x100 and 4x200 relay, breaking the school record in each with times of 52.7 seconds and 1 minute, 49 seconds, respectively.
The 4x100 relay team consisted of Diamond Hunter, Brianna Best, Lexus Satterfield and Terry. The 4x200 team consisted of Loreen Nebo, Lexus Satterfield, Ray and Alexis Moog.
Also, Ariel Brown broke her school record with a time of 53.44 in the 300 hurdles to take second place.Â
On the boys side, Kenwood’s Travis Jenkins won the long jump (21-06) and high jump (6-0), placed second in the triple jump (41-09) and finished fourth in the 400 (52.6). The Bluebirds also placed second in the 4x200 relays in a time of 1:37.
and also competed in the invitational.
Eastern Tech placed 10th on the girls side with 20 points and seventh on the boys side with 39 points. Chesapeake placed 11th on the girls side with 12 points and 11th on the boys side with 18 points.
Among the highlights for those Essex schools, Eastern Tech’s Nick Glaudemans won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.1 seconds while Chesapeake’s Tyrone Casey placed second in the 100 in 11 seconds. Also, Eastern Tech’s Charlie Kulakowski placed second in the 3,200 with a time of 11 minutes.
On the girls side, Eastern Tech’s Samantha Lucas placed third in the 3,200 with a time of 13:20.9. Also, Chesapeake’s Eugenia Nah took second in the shot put (30-08).
Eastern Tech Softball: Â Brianna Casper struck out nine and allowed one hit as the Mavericks topped 15-0 on Friday in a game halted after five innings.
Jen January went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Eastern Tech (12-2), which scored 14 times in the second inning. The Mavericks next play at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday against as today's game has been postponed.
Eastern Tech Baseball: Sophomore second baseman Andy Szamski went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored as the Mavericks rallied for a 9-7 win Friday over visiting Hereford.
The Mavericks allowed four runs in the top of the first inning before scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and seven more in the bottom of the second inning. Junior infielder Logan Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Eastern Tech (6-6), which has won two straight.
Mavericks starting pitcher Troy Schuchman allowed seven runs (four earned) and seven hits, struck out four and walked two in three innings. Chris Hook then pitched the final four innings, and allowed no runs and two hits, struck out four and walked one in relief.
Eastern Tech plays at at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday as today's games have been postponed.
