Softball: Eastern Tech Wins County Title

's dominant season continued Thursday as the Mavericks broke open a tied game with a late offensive explosion en route to a 9-1 victory over in the Baltimore County championship game at CCBC Catonsville.

Freshman infielder Breanna Casper went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Eastern Tech (19-2), which scored four runs each in the fifth an sixth innings in a game that had been tied at 1-1.

Senior second baseman Alison Williams went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while junior Laura Thacker and freshman Jen January also drove in two runs each and senior Alexis Peay had a triple and RBI for the Mavericks.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed one run on four hits and struck out seven to pick up the win. She also helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI at the plate.

Eastern Tech has now won 13 straight as it prepares for the . The Mavericks are the top seed in the Class 3A North region and will host the winner of Aberdeen and on Monday in a regional quarterfinal game.
