Fire At Mr. Tire Caused $5,000 In Damage: Officials

The fire at the tire business on Belair Road in Fallston began in the bathroom, the fire marshal reported.

FALLSTON, MD — A fire at Mr. Tire drew crews from Fallston and surrounding areas Tuesday afternoon, leaving thousands of dollars in damage at the auto business. The incident caused a brief closure of the shop, which has since reopened,

An employee discovered the blaze in the employee restroom at Mr. Tire in the 2200 block of Belair Road at approximately 1:34 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Investigators said the fire began in the employee bathroom. The cause remains under investigation.

Those who worked at the business tried to control the blaze with fire extinguishers. About 20 firefighters responded, contained the fire to the bathroom and put it out, officials reported.

Crews from the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company said they were dispatched at 1:36 p.m. and found light smoke showing from the bathroom upon their arrival.

Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were among those who handled the incident. It took them about five minutes to bring the blaze under control, according to the fire marshal.

A smoke alarm and sprinklers were present but did not activate at the business, investigators said.
Mr. Tire was temporarily closed Tuesday afternoon and reopened shortly afterward, according to the fire marshal.

Officials said there was $2,500 in structural damage; in addition, the fire marshal reported that about $2,500 worth of items inside were lost.

INITIAL REPORT — A building fire has been reported in Fallston Tuesday afternoon. At 1:45 p.m., firefighters were battling the blaze in the 2200 block of Belair Road.

The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported after 2 p.m. that its crew was assisting Fallston firefighters at the scene.
