HCC Appoints New Chief Information Officer

The school announced the appointment of Thomas Franza on Thursday.

Harford Community College has appointed Thomas Franza as its new Chief Information Officer, the school announced on Thursday.

Prior to coming to Harford, Franza was the Director of Academic Information Services at Dowling College in New York, a position he held since 2000. He was concurrently serving as an adjunct associate professor of computer information services (CIS), where he was teaching a graduate level online class.

During his years as director, Franza provided vision, managed and directed staff, and found ways to save the college money through training opportunities and departmental restructuring. Among his many responsibilities was overseeing the management, maintenance, and upgrade of all college-wide network infrastructure.

Other positions he held at Dowling included adjunct assistant professor of CIS, desktop support specialist/help desk coordinator, and network administrator.

Franza earned a B.S. in computer science and an M.S. in technology systems management with a concentration in educational computing from the State University of New York, as well as an M.B.A. in general management.
