Two-Alarm Fire in Fallston Caused by Flue: Fire Marshal
No people were home during the blaze, and dog was able to get out when first responders arrived, the fire marshal said.

FALLSTON, MD — A family in Fallston was displaced Tuesday after authorities say a flue pipe malfunctioned, sparking a two-alarm fire that caused more than $100,000 in damage to their home.

Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the 2000 block of Baldwin Mill Road after a passerby reported the blaze at 9:27 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The initial report was for a chimney fire, and first responders found flames coming from the roof of the residence.
A dog was able to escape when firefighters arrived at the house, where the family was not home at the time, the fire marshal reported.

Crews from Jarrettsville, Fallston, Bel Air, Joppa-Magnolia and Fawn Grove (Pa.) brought the fire under control in 15 minutes, according to the report.
The fire was ruled accidental, caused by a malfunctioning flue pipe on a wood stove, the report said.
There was $150,000 in damage, according to the fire marshal. There was $100,000 in structural damage, and $50,000 worth of items in the home were lost.
Other family members were said to be assisting the residents who were displaced.
