Annual Young Artist Award Competition Now Taking Applications

Musicians between 12- and 18-years-old can compete in the categories of vocal, woodwind, brass, string or piano.

GAITHERSBURG, MD – The 16th annual Young Artist Award competition is just around the corner, and the City of Gaithersburg is now taking applications.

The juried competition, which culminates in a concert featuring the top prize winners, provides young instrumental, piano and vocal musicians with an enriching artistic experience. Application deadline is Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.

Young musicians between 12- and 18-years-old are invited to apply as a vocal or instrumental soloist in the categories of vocal, woodwind, brass, string or piano. First, second and third place prizes, along with honorable mention, may be awarded in each category. Performers must provide their own piano accompanists if accompaniment is needed. Applicants need not reside in the City of Gaithersburg to enter.

“Our goal is to encourage young musicians in their love of music and to share their talents with the community,” said Program Coordinator Monica Harwood. “We provide them with the opportunity to compete before a live jury and top winners are featured in a prestigious concert open to the public.”

The live audition takes place on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019. All participants will receive written feedback from the jurors. Top prize winners must be available to participate in the Young Artist Award Concert on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rosborough Cultural Arts Center at Asbury Methodist Village, 301 Odendhal Avenue.
