Best Medicine Rep Theater Presents New Holiday Musical

Best Medicine Rep, Gaithersburg's professional theater company, is proud to present the world premiere of The Crater Sisters’ Christmas Special by John Morogiello and Lori Boyd. Directed by John Morogiello, the musical comedy will run November 29 thru December 16 at the Best Medicine Rep Theater space at Lakeforest Mall. Appearing in the play will be Lori Boyd, Rebecca A. Herron, Claire Derriennic and James Morogiello.

The Crater Sisters’ Christmas Special is a musical farce that gives holiday punch has a whole new meaning. How does a demanding star salvage her TV comeback when the cast and crew resign? Become even more demanding! Watch her life fall apart, as she learns the lesson of Christmas.

"I've written music for a few of John Morogiello's plays," says co-author and actress Lori Boyd, "but this is the first time we've collaborated on a full-fledged musical."

Lori Boyd has been performing with Radio King Orchestra as one of the Fabulous Pin Curl Girls for the past decade. She has performed in several Morogiello productions such as The Consul, The Tramp, and America's Sweetheart, Irish Authors Held Hostage in DC and New York. Lori has also worked in regional theaters including Round House, Maryland Ensemble, and Adventure Theatre as well as television/film in Homicide, Liberty Heights and behind the scenes with Discovery Channel. Best Medicine Rep will present a reading of her play The Fifth Date in March 2019.

Morogiello agrees that working with Ms. Boyd has been a delight. "This is an incredibly fun show for the holiday season. Heartfelt, silly. And we wrote it with these four specific actors in mind."
John Morogiellois a playwright in residence with the Maryland State Arts Council. His other plays include Engaging Shaw (Best Medicine Rep, Old Globe), Blame It On Beckett (Abingdon Theatre Company off-Broadway), The Consul, The Tramp, and America's Sweetheart (Best Medicine Rep, Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills), Men and Parts (Actors Theatre of Louisville), Gianni Schicchi (Rep Stage), Play Date (Oldcastle Theatre Company) and Irish Authors Held Hostage (J.T. Burian Theatricals).

Also appearing in the play will be Claire Derriennic, Rebecca A. Herron, and James Morogiello. Derriennic has appeared in Best Med's production of The Texas Homecoming Revolution of 1995. Herron, a favorite of Best Med audiences, last appeared in Engaging Shaw and Derek Jeter Makes the Play. While Crater Sisters will be James Morogiello's debut with Best Medicine Rep, he has done two seasons of summer stock in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and recently appeared in BMR's reading of Die, Mr. Darcy, Die! at the Kennedy Center Page to Stage Festival.

Performances run Thursday through Saturday evenings at 7pm, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm. There will also be a Sunday evening performance on December 9 at 7pm. Tickets are $25 for general admission and are available through bestmedicinerep.org.
