CCACC to hold Lunar New Year Online Celebration@Feb 13 at 11 AM

Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) 's online Lunar New Year celebration is scheduled at 11:00 AM on Feb 13, 2021.

Due to the ongoing public health crisis, Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) decides to conduct the annual Lunar New Year celebration virtually for the coming year of the Ox.

CCACC annually holds Lunar New Year celebration, which was normally held at Lakeforest Mall, Gaithersburg, for the community and attracted more than thousands of people with two-week of displays and two weekends of performances, activities and outreaches.

In the past 20 years, during Lunar New Year celebration, there were many educational displays throughout the mall, including Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and a special theme exhibition. We could also enjoy vast variety of cultural and traditional performances and workshops.

This year, due to the ongoing public health crisis, CCACC decides to host this annual Lunar New Year celebration event virtually, to help people feel the spirit of the New Year, and to share Chinese culture that allows us to honor diversity and promote cultural exchange in the community.

CCACC was established in 1982, currently having over 2000 active members. It’s a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization serving the Greater Washington D.C. Area. CCACC promotes the appreciation of Chinese heritage and enhances mutual understanding through its cultural activities and educational programs, such as Tai Chi, folk dance, Chinese and Cantonese operas, Chinese painting and calligraphy, arts and crafts. CCACC also runs many services and programs to serve the community including Adult Day Healthcare Center, Home Care, CLAPS (Chinese school for non-Chinese speaking families), Adult ESOL classes, After-School Enrichment Program, Volleyball Clinics, Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic, and the CCACC Art Gallery.

CCACC has done an amazing job in the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been working hard to convey the news to the public, and continued providing services for those in need, including delivering food and masks, providing clinic services, home care, online classes and activities, webinars, and setting up various hotlines for special services during the pandemic. In addition, we donated more than 20,000 pieces of PPE to the community. And there were three of CCACC’s female leaders selected as Maryland Sheroes at the 2020 Woman’s Centennial Summit.

Although CCACC can’t host this annual event at Lakeforest Mall this year, we are still working hard to share Chinese culture online, and collaborating with local facilities to do exhibitions of Chinese culture artifacts. On Feb 5, CCACC decorated Wheaton Mall with hundreds of lanterns, bringing the spirit of Lunar New Year to the community.

The online Lunar New Year celebration is scheduled at 11:00 AM on Feb 13, 2021, which will include a session of greetings from our VIPs, and many performances.
