Christmas Eve Weather: Flash Flood Watch Issued For Parts Of MoCo

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for parts of Montgomery County. Expect Christmas Eve to be a wet one.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Christmas Eve in Montgomery County will be a wet one, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters have issued a flash flood watch for a portion of the county from 1 p.m. on Thursday to 4 a.m. on Friday. The National Weather Service issues the alert when rainy conditions have the potential to trigger flash flooding.

"One to three inches of rain are expected this afternoon and tonight," the weather alert stated. "This may result in flash flooding of small streams and creeks as well as urban areas."

Affected areas in the county include:

  • Gaithersburg
  • Germantown
  • Damascus
  • Rockville
  • Silver Spring
  • Bethesda

The flash flood watch also extends to other parts of Maryland, including Elkton, Bowie, Annapolis, Odenton, Severn, Greenbelt, College Park, Reisterstown, Columbia, and Westminster.
