City Opens Registration for Fall Youth, Teen Sports

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and some programs have limited space.

Registration is now open for fall youth and teen sports programs in the City of Gaithersburg. Fall offerings include cross country, flag football, soccer and volleyball. Gaithersburg sports leagues offer one practice and one game per week, allowing youth and their families time for other activities. The city also offers Start Smartâ„¢ programs for ages 4-5 in football and soccer. Start Smart is an international program designed to introduce youth, along with their parents, to the world of sports.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and some programs have limited space. The registration deadline is Sept. 7. Start Smart programs are limited to the first 20 participants. The city cannot guarantee entry into a program for registrations received after Sept. 7.

Registration fees for youth programs are $65 and $50 for City of Gaithersburg residents. Registration fees for teen programs are $70 and $55 for City of Gaithersburg residents.

Fall youth and teen sports offerings include coed cross country (grades 1-6), coed ultimate football (grades K-1), coed flag football (grades 2-3, grades 4-5), coed teen flag football (grades 6-8), boys and girls soccer (grades 1-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6), coed teen volleyball clinic (grades 6-8), Start Smartâ„¢ football for youth (ages 4-5) and their parents as well as Start Smartâ„¢ soccer for youth (ages 4-5) and their parents.

A special registration night will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Rio Washingtonian Center on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 4-8 p.m. All Gaithersburg sports participants, whether registering that evening or having done so previously, can enjoy special discounts on equipment and apparel during the event.

Online registration is available.

The city is seeking volunteer coaches for these sports programs. Gaithersburg certifies all coaches through the National Youth Sport Coaches Accreditation Program. Background checks will be conducted. See the sports registration form for details, or call (301) 258-6350.
