Frederick County was hit hard Tuesday night, with 6 inches of rain, water rescues and a MARC train stuck for hours. More rain is coming.

FREDERICK, MD — Major flooding in Frederick County caused over a dozen water rescues Tuesday night, as some parts of the area got over six inches of rain, officials said. Over 80 people were trapped aboard a MARC train at 7 p.m. until after midnight because of high water. The train was headed to Brunswick station, and passengers were forced to go to the upper deck of the train for safety.

A flood warning was in effect for the county and much of Maryland Tuesday night; the warning continued for Frederick and Montgomery counties until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Around 3 inches of rain had already fallen as of 8:30 p.m. in Frederick and flash flooding was occurring, forecasters said. Parts of the county got up to six inches of rain. Roads were flooded and not passable Tuesday night. Many cars were stranded and towed out of the water, police said. Water also flooded shops in downtown Frederick and the basements of homes.
