Educational Series Fosters Discovery At Community Museum
The free event at the Gaithersburg Community Museum bolsters family involvement and lets kids interact with local history.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Gaithersburg Community Museum is inviting visitors to dig into the local history of trains, radio and telegraphy during Discovery Days, an educational series based around a stimulating environment for kids and families.
Discovery Days is a free event, and no registration is required. Donations, however, are appreciated and excepted, the City of Gaithersburg said in a press release.

- 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Discover the magic of trains and celebrate Gaithersburg’s long and storied history with the railroad at Train Day. Visitors are invited to view N-Gauge model train displays presented by BANTRAK members, explore a caboose and RDC rail car, and participate in train-related activities and crafts. With any luck visitors can also enjoy the sights and sounds of the actual CSX and Amtrak trains that frequently rumble by. The 1918 Steam Engine will be open for tours, and there will be demonstrations of the Railroad Signal Tower at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

- Discovery Day: Amateur Radio & Telegraphy

- 1 – 4 p.m.
Learn about HAM radio, telegraphy, Morse Code, early radio and television and more. We will be joined by the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club, the Morse Telegraph Club, and the National Capital Radio and Television Museum with exhibits and hands-on activities.
- Olde Towne Plaza Splash Fountain
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday – Friday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Saturday & Sunday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

The Gaithersburg Community Museum is located at 9 South Summit Avenue. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with additional hours by appointment.
