ESCAPISM Solo Exhibit for Vian Borchert

Escapism is the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.

Noted artist Vian Borchert presents at the Framer's Choice Gallery her solo art exhibition "ESCAPISM" showcasing her latest paintings created during COVID-19 times. ESCAPSIM is on view at the gallery from May 1 till June 12, 2021. The exhibit features 25 original paintings of Borchert that are reminiscent of simpler times pre-COVID.

The Framer's Choice Gallery is located in downtown Kentlands.

ESCAPISM is a series of artwork where artist, Vian Borchert, finds herself transported into her daydreams and imagination while falling more into her art and art creation. The artist states that “it is almost deliberate the need to escape this reality that one finds oneself living in. Although it is hard to escape the harsh truths of our COVID-19 times; yet, I find my mind wandering into a world of imagination and dreams. Art for sure facilitates my escape into my own created world where self expression and gestural energy reign supreme. The Zen like approach of creating art helps me escape into my own wonderland where it’s a breezy stroll by the sea while the birds sing up above.” Borchert feels that the confinement has aided her escapism and birthed much meaning to the word. Borchert exclaims that, “It is through the process of creation that I find myself stepping away from the fear of the shadows of death that plague our existence. Through my artistic journey, it becomes clear to me that it is through art I have found the greatest escape!”

Besides her ESCAPISM exhibit, acclaimed artist Vian Borchert teaches fine art classes via Glen Echo Park's Yellow Barn Studio. The June art classes will be for all levels of students from beginners to intermediate to advanced students. Classes in painting and in drawing will be online via Zoom.
