Fantasticks Gelato Bar Now Open In Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The City of Gaithersburg just got a whole lot sweeter.

Fantasticks Gelato Bar — a dessert joint that offers customizable frozen bars and popsicles — opened Friday at 215 Boardwalk Place. The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce (GGCC) conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening.

"This was one of our sweetest ribbon cuttings," GGCC President Marilyn Balcombe said. "Fantasticks is a great addition to the neighborhood. We commend them for their perseverance through a very difficult time and so glad they are finally open."

One of Italy's most popular exports, gelato is made with more milk than cream and typically doesn't have egg yolks — a common ingredient in ice cream. Gelato's texture is also creamier and denser than ice cream because it is churned at a slower rate.

At Fantasticks, the gelato is handcrafted daily in small batches. Half of the menu is vegan and flavors include butterscotch caramel, kiwi and strawberry, red velvet, and peanut butter.

Store hours are weekdays from 4 to 9 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m.
