Flooding On Potomac Causes White's Ferry To Close

Flooding on the Potomac River caused White's Ferry to remain closed Tuesday.

POOLESVILLE, MD — White's Ferry is closed Tuesday due to flooding on the Potomac River.

The river is flooded with rising water and debris after the days of heavy rain that slammed the area last week.

The ferry is closed until further notice, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Forecasters said the river stage was at 22.1 feet at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

White's Ferry is the last of 100 ferries that used to operate on the Potomac River. About 600 people use the ferry to commute between Loudon and Montgomery counties every day.
