Gaithersburg Announces Youth and Teen Sports Registration

Registration opens February 1 for Spring Youth and Teen Sports programs in the City of Gaithersburg.

From the City of Gaithersburg: Registration opens February 1, 2017 for Spring Youth and Teen Sports programs in the City of Gaithersburg. Spring offerings include t-baseball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field. Gaithersburg Sports leagues offer one practice and one game per week, allowing youth and their families time for other activities. The City also offers Start Smartâ„¢ programs for 4, 5 and 6 year-olds in lacrosse and baseball. Start Smart is an international program designed to introduce youth, along with their parents, to the world of sports.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis, and some programs have limited space. The registration deadline is March 1. Start Smart programs are limited to the first 20 participants.

  • Start Smartâ„¢ Lacrosse for Youth Ages 4 - 6 and their Parents
  • Start Smartâ„¢ Baseball for Youth Ages 4 - 6 and their Parents
  • Boys T-Baseball Grades K – 2
  • Coed Baseball (JUGS - Machine Pitch) Grades 2 & 3 and 4 & 5
  • Girls T-Softball Grades K – 2
  • Girls Softball Grades 3 & 4 and 5 - 7
  • Boys Soccer Grades 1 & 2, 3 & 4 and 5 & 6
  • Girls Soccer Grades 1 & 2, 3 & 4 and 5 & 6
  • Teen Volleyball Grades 6 – 8
  • Boys and Girls Volleyball Grades 4 & 5
  • Track and Field Ages 7 & 8, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, and 13 & 14

In addition to sports offerings, two special events will be held this spring. La Milla de Mayo, a festive one-mile run/walk through Olde Towne, Gaithersburg, takes place on Saturday, May 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and features free quarter and half-mile Kids Fun Runs, live music, food vendors, Salsa dancing, crafts, and fun activities.

The annual Strokes and Strides swim and running event takes place on Saturday, June 3 at 8 a.m. at the Water Park at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm. Youth ages seven through 14 will compete in two divisions (7-10 and 11-14) in this event that combines swimming and running. There will be snacks and an awards ceremony after the race.

The City is also seeking volunteer coaches for these sports programs. All volunteers who wish to coach for the City of Gaithersburg will go through a background check and will receive certification through the National Youth Sport Coaches Accreditation Program.
