Gaithersburg Celebrating Halloween Virtually And In-Person

Throughout the month of October, the City of Gaithersburg will celebrate Halloween with virtual and in-person programs and activities.

Throughout the month of October, the city will celebrate Halloween with virtual and in-person programs and activities.

Events are subject to change. Officials say they will be looking to the Montgomery County Health Department for COVID-19 guidance as Halloween draws nearer, and will communicate their recommendations.

Here's what the city has planned:

Family Workshop: Autumn (in-person)

  • Date and Location: Sunday, Oct. 18, 1-1:45 p.m. — Kentlands Green (outdoors)
  • Prices: $26.25 for residents/$28.50 for non-residents (parent/guardian attends free with child)
  • Description: Create autumn-inspired projects with your child. A supply kit will be provided. This workshop is for children ages 3 to 10. All participants MUST wear a mask and social distancing is required. Each family will be seated together at one six-foot table. Register online

Tasty Books Boo Bash Kit (in-person pick up for family fun at home)

  • Date and Location: Thursday, Oct. 22, pick-up between 1 and 4 p.m. — Casey Community Center
  • Price: $15
  • Description: Get ready for Halloween with a special Tasty Books Boo Bash Kit. It includes "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds, a Creepy Face Carrot craft, candy eyes, creepy carrot cake recipe, and other Halloween treats. "Creepy Carrots" is a great book to celebrate Halloween. Jasper Rabbit loves eating carrots. But soon these humble root vegetables are following Jasper everywhere. What do these creepy carrots want with Jasper? And can he figure out how to put them underground for good, or will he become a snack himself? Purchase online here.

Ghost Talk (virtual)

  • Date: Thursday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m.
  • Price: Free
  • Description: Go in search of the ghosts that haunt Gaithersburg homes and byways with this virtual talk with Karen Yaffe Lottes, author of "In Search of Maryland Ghosts: Montgomery County." The discussion takes place on the Gaithersburg Community Museum Facebook Page.

Kentlands Ghostwalk (virtual)

  • Date: Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, 7 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11 p.m.
  • Price: $15 ($5 discount if also purchasing Poems Macabre)
  • Description: Drawing from historical accounts and documented experiences of the paranormal, this virtual walking tour explores the property of the Kentlands estate including inside the historic Kentlands Mansion, Arts Barn, and surrounding area. Discover the stories behind the street signs and the history of your neighborhood while hearing tales of the spirits who may still linger. Only one virtual ticket purchase is required per household, so one or more persons may view the program. Once registered, patrons will receive an internet link and password unique to them. Poems Macabre: The Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe (virtual)

  • Date: Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, 8 p.m., 10 p.m., and midnight
  • Price: $15 ($5 discount if also purchasing Kentlands Ghostwalk)
  • Description: Celebrate All Hallow's Eve with selected poetry from Edgar Allan Poe, the Master of the Macabre. Enjoy a one-hour virtual presentation featuring Poe-inspired artwork, music and recited poetry, told from within the historic (and allegedly haunted) Kentlands Mansion. Only one virtual ticket purchase is required per household, so one or more persons may view the program. Once registered, patrons will receive an internet link and password unique to them.
